Germany Accepts First Group of Afghan Refugees After Three-Year Wait

Germany has admitted its first group of Afghan refugees fleeing Taliban rule after a wait of nearly three years, according to AFP.

The group of 46 Afghan nationals was flown from Pakistan to Istanbul before arriving at Hanover Airport. A 47th member of the group is expected to arrive later today.

Comprising ten families, the arrivals include former political, judicial, and media figures, as well as one individual who previously served in the German army.

The move comes after German courts ruled that the government must honor earlier commitments to accept Afghan refugees. The decision also comes amid worsening conditions for thousands of Afghans stranded in Pakistan.
