Taliban Wives Campaign Exposes Double Standards on Women’s Rights

A former CIA officer has launched a campaign titled “Taliban House Wives” by publishing images of Taliban officials’ wives, sparking widespread debate over the group’s restrictive policies on Afghan women, Shia Waves Persian reported.
According to AFP, Sarah Adams, a former CIA officer, released photos taken from diplomatic passports on social media platform X, describing the move as a protest against Taliban-imposed restrictions. She has so far revealed the images of ten women linked to Taliban officials posted in embassies and consulates in cities including Peshawar, Moscow, Zahedan, Quetta, Astana, Mashhad, Bishkek, Dubai, and Islamabad. Adams warned that more photos will be made public if the restrictions continue.
The campaign comes in response to recent Taliban measures, including banning women’s photos from national ID cards. Adams pointed out that “Taliban women travel abroad freely on diplomatic passports, while Afghan girls are denied even the right to have their picture on official documents.”
The revelations have sparked widespread reactions online, with many users highlighting the Taliban’s “blatant hypocrisy” — granting their own families freedoms and privileges while subjecting ordinary Afghan women to severe limitations.
