A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region on Saturday, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). Initially reported as magnitude 5.5, the quake occurred at a depth of 123 kilometers. No casualties or damage have been reported.

Afghanistan experiences frequent seismic activity due to its location along major fault lines where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates converge. In June, a 4.6 magnitude quake hit western Afghanistan, and in April, a 5.8 magnitude tremor near the Tajikistan border was felt across northern India, including Kashmir and Delhi-NCR.
