U.N.-Habitat Afghanistan reaffirms support for Afghan women ahead of Women’s Day

Ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8, U.N.-Habitat Afghanistan has expressed its continued support for Afghan women and girls, emphasizing their rights and participation in society. In a statement on X, the agency reiterated its commitment to advocating for Afghan women, who face significant restrictions under Taliban rule.
Stephanie Luss, U.N.-Habitat’s representative in Afghanistan, highlighted in a video message the importance of access to education, healthcare, and clean water in improving the lives of women and girls. This year’s observance of Women’s Day comes as Afghan women remain deprived of fundamental rights more than three years after the Taliban regained control.
Activists say conditions have worsened, with increasing restrictions limiting freedoms. Despite global calls for change, the Taliban have maintained strict policies on women’s rights with no indication of easing their stance.
