Taliban Destroyed Many Hazara & Tajik-Populated Areas Of Kabul, Says New Report

A new investigative report by The Guardian reveals the Taliban’s systematic destruction of thousands of homes in Kabul, targeting predominantly Hazara and Tajik areas, Afghanistan International reported. The report, conducted with four Afghan news organizations, describes this as a catastrophic purge driven by ethnic motives.

Since the Taliban regained power in 2021, their renovation program has reportedly left thousands homeless, with approximately 385 hectares (1.56 square kilometers) of urban land cleared.

Satellite imagery and local testimonies indicate that the most affected districts include Dasht-e-Barchi, a Hazara-majority area. Residents reported brutal demolitions, with some families claiming injuries and fatalities during the destruction of informal settlements. Women, particularly heads of households, face increased vulnerability due to eviction and lack of compensation, exacerbated by Taliban restrictions on their mobility.

Human rights groups warn that this destruction not only displaces communities but also heightens the risk of gender-based violence as families struggle to find shelter amid Afghanistan’s ongoing humanitarian crisis.
