HRW urges protection for Hazara community in Afghanistan
Human Rights Watch has urged immediate protection for the Hazara community in Afghanistan, citing escalating violence since the Taliban’s takeover in August 2021, Khaama Press reported yesterday.
HRW pointed out ISIS has claimed responsibility for at least 17 attacks, resulting in over 700 casualties among Hazaras.
The statement came after 14 Hazara Shiites were martyred in Daikundi. Human Rights Watch calls for investigations into these attacks and for the Taliban to implement effective protective measures for vulnerable groups, including Shia Muslims.
The organization emphasizes the need for support for victims’ families and urges the UN Human Rights Council to establish an accountability mechanism for human rights violations in Afghanistan.
