Funding Shortages Leave 600,000 Afghan Women Without Nutritional Support

The World Food Programme (WFP) has revealed that funding shortages have left 600,000 Afghan women without access to essential nutritious food, Amu TV reported yesterday.

While WFP has successfully provided specialized food to over 1.6 million pregnant and breastfeeding mothers to combat malnutrition, the ongoing financial crisis has hindered further support.

This alarming situation is compounded by a recent report indicating that three million children in Afghanistan are currently suffering from malnutrition, highlighting the country’s severe hunger crisis.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has linked the rising malnutrition rates to deteriorating economic conditions and widespread poverty. Additionally, UNICEF reports that approximately 52 percent of newborns in Afghanistan are deprived of healthy milk, exacerbating the nutritional challenges faced by vulnerable populations. Urgent action is needed to address these critical issues and ensure that Afghan women and children receive the support they desperately need.
