Clashes Between Nomads, Hazaras in Bamiyan Leave 2 Injured
At least two villagers were injured during violent clashes between nomads and residents in Punjab District of Afghanistan’s Bamiyan province, Afghanistan International reported yesterday.
One individual was shot, while another suffered a concerning head injury from a stone. Both injured parties were transported to Punjab Hospital for treatment, the source mentioned.
Witnesses claim that Taliban forces intervened by deleting video evidence from locals’ mobile phones and forbidding interviews, photos, and videos of the injured. There are indications that the number of injured may exceed initial reports, although the news agency did not confirm this.
The confrontation occurred in the Darazqul area along the Ghor-Kabul highway, sparked when nomads grazed their sheep in villagers’ fields. This incident follows a recent announcement by Mullah Noorullah Noori, the Taliban’s Minister of Borders and Tribal Affairs, who claimed that disputes over pastures between the Hazara community and nomads had been resolved through a mutual agreement.
However, local sources in Hazarajat have yet to verify this resolution, underscoring ongoing tensions. Last year, Mullah Abdul Kabir stated that the conflict would be addressed in accordance with Islamic Sharia. Following this, a document was published to form a “Commission for Resolving Conflicts,” allowing nomads access to claimed lands while directing villagers to seek resolution through Taliban authorities until disputes are formally settled.
The document also emphasised that until the Taliban’s Commission for Resolving Conflicts settles the disputes over pastures and lands, neither side is allowed to occupy the disputed areas.
