Taliban Carries Out Public Floggings of Over 60 Afghans
The Taliban regime in Afghanistan has carried out public floggings of over 63 people, including 14 women, in the northern province of Sar-e Pul, VOA reported yesterday.
The individuals were convicted of crimes such as homosexuality, adultery, and “immoral relations”, the news agency added.
This marks the first large-scale public flogging since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021. The punishments were executed in the provincial capital’s central sports stadium, with local authorities and members of the public present as witnesses.
The United Nations and global human rights organizations have strongly condemned these judicial corporal punishments, stating they are prohibited under international law and must cease immediately.
