Thousands of Afghan Migrants Return Home Amid Crackdowns
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), 74,291 Afghan migrants returned home from April 21-27, with 43,176 coming from Iran and 31,115 from Pakistan, Amu TV reported yesterday.
The returnees entered through border crossings like Torkham, Ghulam Khan, and Spin Boldak from Pakistan, and Islam Qala and Milak from Iran.
During the same period, 43,422 Afghans also left for Iran and Pakistan, with 24,348 going to Iran and 19,074 to Pakistan.
The influx of returnees comes as Pakistan and Iran have intensified crackdowns on Afghan refugees, leading to the daily deportation of dozens of families.
“The recent border closures and deportations have forced many Afghans to return home, often without proper documentation,” said an IOM spokesperson.
