Human Rights Watch calls on the Bahraini authorities to release the death row

Human Rights Watch called on Bahrain’s allies, including the United States and Britain, to pressure Bahrain to allow international experts to independently investigate allegations of torture of Bahrainis sentenced to death, both Muhammad Ramadan and Hussein Musa.

The organization called on the Bahraini authorities to release them, or to redo the procedure that meets the criteria for a fair trial.

“Human Rights Watch opposes the death penalty in all circumstances because of its harsh nature and its irreversibility,” said Aya Majzoub, a researcher at the organization.

This call comes before a session of the Bahraini Court of Cassation next Monday, July 13th, as the last opportunity to appeal the unfair death sentence.

The organization pointed out that this was not the first time that the Court of Cassation had examined the case of Muhammad Ramadan and Hussein Musa, noting that a court had sentenced the two men to death in 2014 for killing a policeman and other charges of terrorism, despite the two men reporting that security forces tortured and sexually assaulted them to push them to confess.
