The Iraqi security forces and Shia volunteers of the Popular Mobilization managed to clear the main road linking Tikrit with Samarra-Baghdad Road from the so-called Islamic State terrorists, according to a security source.
Earlier, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi says units of government forces, backed by the Popular Mobilization Forces, have managed to retake control of the strategic northern city of Tikrit from the IS Takfiri terrorist group.
Abadi announced on Tuesday afternoon that Iraqi forces have liberated Tikrit and raised the country’s national flag over the Salahuddin provincial government headquarters.
