Amnesty International accuses the Bahraini authorities of continuing violations, repression and controlling the media

Amnesty International reiterated its call on the Bahraini authorities to improve their human rights file, in light of the escalation of violations, repression, and the absence of freedoms in the country.
In a series of tweets, the organization said on its Twitter account that Bahrain continues to impose restrictions on freedom of opinion and expression, and crimes of torture, ill-treatment and unfair trials, and it is considered a partner in the war on Yemen, within the so-called “Arab coalition” forces.
It added that the Bahraini authorities control all media outlets, and there is no independent press in the country. They have also doubled down on their restrictions on publishing through social media, and punished many citizens for “spreading false news.”
The organization referred to the outbreak of the new Coronavirus in prisons, amid the authorities’ absence from taking precautionary measures to combat the pandemic, as many local reports confirmed the high number of infected cases among the detainees.
The organization pointed out that the death penalty continues in the country, despite the fact that no execution was carried out last year.
