Hundreds of families displaced due to clashes in southern Afghanistan
Officials said that hundreds of families have been displaced due to the ongoing clashes in Helmand Province, southern Afghanistan.
A member of the provincial council, Abdul Muhid Akhound Zada, said that civilians fled from the outskirts of the provincial capital, Lashkar Gah, to the city center, adding that the Taliban terrorist movement is currently controlling the fourth police district of Lashkar Gah, while clashes are still continuing in the third district.
Officials added that policemen at some checkpoints on the outskirts of the city left their positions without resistance as part of “a tactical retreat to avoid civilian casualties.”
According to local media reports, the electricity supply to the city was cut off.
The Taliban has not yet commented on the clashes.
