UN: “Yemeni humanitarian crisis worst in the world”
The Saudi-led war on Yemen has brought untold misery and desperation to civilians trapped by the fighting.
The Saudi-led war on Yemen has brought untold misery and desperation to civilians trapped by the fighting.
The United Nations describes the situation in Yemen as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis and reports more than 22 million people — three-quarters of Yemen’s population — desperately need assistance.
The civil war greatly limited the population’s access to food and clean water, leading to the largest cholera outbreak ever reported. The UN Food Programme estimates nearly 12 million people are on the verge of starvation in Yemen.
Despite the dire situation, UN humanitarian chief Mark Lowcock says it is not too late to save Yemen’s civilians.
