Local officials on Saturday say the KhasUruzgan district of central Uruzgan province in Afghanistan is besieged by Taliban militants from the past one month and may fall to the rebels if reinforcements do not arrive soon.
An official who declined to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban militants reached close to the district building, the police headquarter and the Afghan National Army (ANA)’s third battalion.
The source said that KhasUruzgan district would collapse to militants if reinforcements do not arrive immediately.
Lack of coordination among a number of security officials and internal problems are the main factors of worsened security situation in the district, he said.
Uruzgan governor’s spokesman, Dost Mohammad Nayab, confirmed the bad security situation in the district since a month.
