The Iraqi army repelled an ISIS attack on the western city of Hit, killing 40 militants, Iraqi army forces’ chief of Anbar province KasemMohammadi said Sunday.

Iraqi troops launched a large-scale offensive against ISIS militants last summer. In December 2015, they drove the terrorists out of the Anbar provincial capital Ramadi, and then recaptured their stronghold in Fallujah.

“ISIS attacked the town of Hit, shelled the area with rockets, mines and other weapons. The Iraqi air force and artillery repelled the attack, killing 40 ISISterrorists,” Mohammadiadded.
