Dozens killed in suicide attack on Shiite shrine north of Baghdad

Terrorists have fired mortars and detonated their explosive vests among a crowd just outside a Shia holy shrine north of Baghdad late on Thursday.

 

 

Terrorists have fired mortars and detonated their explosive vests among a crowd just outside a Shia holy shrine north of Baghdad late on Thursday.

The three suicide bombers were in military uniforms when they infiltrated the crowds and blew themselves up, killing 40 and wounding 75 others,according to the Iraqi authorities.

Thursday’s attack occurred in Balad, about 55 miles north of Baghdad, at the mausoleum of Sayyid Muhammad bin Ali al-Hadi, peace be upon them,the son of the 10th infallible imam.

 Crowds of pilgrims had gathered there to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.

The attack occurred just days after a minivan packed with explosives detonated in central Baghdad, martyring and wounding hundreds of people.
