A policeman was martyred and at least 14 other people were injured in two back to back blasts in Peshawar, Samaa reported Wednesday.

According to police, the blasts occurred in Mathra locality where two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) went off one after the other.

Officials said the first explosion targeted a police van, injuring two personnel. One of them later succumbed to injuries during treatment in hospital.

The second blast proved fatal and caused more casualties when another IED went off close to the first blast site just half-an-hour later in presence of policemen and media persons.

The second blast left at least 12 people, including a few officials of bomb disposal squad (BDS) and TV channel staff members. They were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital.

Security forces cordoned off the scene and searched for terrorists who often target police and security forces in Peshawar, a city gateway to lawless tribal region that is hub of Taliban militants.
