Yemeni centre, a Quran manuscripts treasury

Yemen’s Archives Centre in the capital city of Sana’a holds around 1100 manuscript copies of the Holy Quran.

Some of the copies date back to the early years of the advent of Islam.

Many of the manuscripts are rare copies written on parchment, vellum or calfskin.

According to deputy of the centre, the manuscripts have been collected by the centre or donated by different individuals.

Al-Qarbiya library is another treasury of old manuscripts where a large number of handwritten Quran copies are held.

It is said that the oldest surviving manuscript of the Holy Quran is in Yemen.
