A suicide bomb attack and a subsequent car bomb explosion occurredat a Shia mosque in Yemen’s capital, Sana’a, killing at least 32 people and injuring 98 others, in an operation claimed by the so-called Islamic State Yemeni affiliate.

The suicide attacker blew himself up inside the al-MouayedMosque during the evening call to prayers on Wednesday, while the car bomb was detonated outside the entrance as rescuers came to help the wounded, witnesses said.

Medical officials said the death toll may rise with people now in operating rooms in several hospitals.

A statement shared on Twitter by supporters of the group, said ISIS member Qusai al-Sanaaeni infiltrated the “Houthi Shia Muslims with his suicide vest in al-MouayedMosque in al-Jaraf district in North Sana’a and detonated himself while the car bomb parked outside the mosque exploded when the ambulances arrived to the scene”.

The terrorist group has carried out similar bombings in Sana’a this year.
