British Muslim Creators Form New Network to Strengthen Representation
………….
A group of prominent British Muslim creatives convened in a wood-panelled committee room at the Houses of Parliament on Wednesday for a landmark discussion on visibility, representation and influence, Hyphen reported.
The inaugural meeting of the Muslim Creators Network (MCN), hosted by crossbench peer Shaista Gohir and content creator Sebina Hussain, brought together influencers, broadcasters, artists and journalists to explore how to improve the portrayal of British Muslims across media and entertainment.
Participants spoke openly about persistent challenges, including anti-Muslim narratives, online hostility and limited access within mainstream industries. Despite these concerns, the tone remained focused on solutions, with attendees emphasising the need for stronger collaboration and direct engagement with decision-makers in media and politics.
Gohir, who also leads the Muslim Women’s Network UK (MWNUK), said the network aims to help creatives amplify each other’s work and shape public narratives. Scheduled to launch nationally in March 2026, the MCN will offer training, mentoring, business support and opportunities for joint campaigns.
It will run alongside Muslim Heritage Month, another MWNUK initiative designed to counter rising anti-Muslim sentiment with a celebratory, storytelling-driven approach. Future meetings will involve an advisory panel to develop strategies for influencing media representation and policymaking.
