Muslim World League Calls for Global Unity Against Rising Islamophobia

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL), addressed the UN General Assembly on Friday marking the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, Arab News reported. He highlighted that prejudice against the approximately two billion Muslims globally undermines the values of inclusive citizenship enshrined in democratic constitutions and international human rights principles.
Al-Issa pointed to a troubling increase in incidents of discrimination, marginalization, and the denial of basic rights affecting millions of Muslims around the world. He passionately stated, “When we speak from this international platform, we are not only defending Islam but also defending humanitarian principles.”

He called for a collective rejection of hatred, racism, and divisive election slogans that incite fear for political gain. Al-Issa urged the international community to foster tolerance and understanding, emphasizing the pivotal role of educational and cultural institutions in promoting these values.
Following his speech, he engaged in bilateral talks with UN General Assembly President Philemon Yang, discussing the rise in anti-Muslim sentiment and other mutual concerns. Representatives from various UN member states also shared their governments’ efforts to combat Islamophobia, reinforcing the need for global unity against discrimination.
