Spanish Muslims revive Andalusian pilgrimage tradition by traveling to Mecca on horseback
In a unique initiative, a group of Spanish Muslims has embarked on a pilgrimage to Mecca using Arabian horses, inspired by the journeys of their Andalusian ancestors who traveled on horseback over 500 years ago.
One participant explained that the journey, covering approximately 8,000 kilometers and taking several months, is an homage to their Andalusian heritage.
The project aims to highlight the cultural and religious legacy of Andalusian Muslims, who once traversed vast distances across continents to reach the sacred Kaaba.
While rooted in history, the journey incorporates modern technologies to ensure the safety and well-being of the riders and horses. Comprehensive logistical measures have been put in place to provide comfort during the long trek.
This initiative has garnered widespread attention as a symbol of Andalusian heritage and a bridge between the past and present in performing the sacred ritual of Hajj while preserving timeless Islamic values.
