Poor Sleep Quality Linked to Accelerated Brain Aging, Study Finds
—————————–
A new study from Sweden’s Karolinska Institute suggests that poor sleep quality is directly associated with an accelerated biological aging of the brain.
Researchers analyzed data from 27,500 individuals in the UK Biobank, combining reported sleep metrics with MRI scans of their brains, Shia Waves Persian reported. The findings showed a clear connection between sleep deprivation and a faster pace of neural decline.
According to the study, every reported drop in sleep quality was linked to a jump in biological age, making the brain appear approximately six months older. Furthermore, individuals reporting consistently poor or chronic bad sleep showed a brain age that was about one full year ahead of their actual chronological age.
