WHO Warns of Global Mental Health Crisis as Cases Exceed 1 Billion
————————————
The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that more than one billion people worldwide are now living with mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression, posing a heavy burden on individuals, families, and the global economy.

According to the United Nations website, mental health conditions have become the second leading cause of long-term disability. Experts estimate that the global economy loses around $1 trillion annually due to reduced productivity linked to untreated mental health issues.

Despite the scale of the crisis, most countries still fall short in providing adequate mental health care and support services. WHO officials stress the need for increased investment, expanded access to treatment, and the integration of mental health into primary health systems to ease the growing strain.

The warning comes as demand for mental health support continues to rise worldwide, with conflict, displacement, climate stress, and economic hardship exacerbating the crisis.
