Weekend Workouts Significantly Boost Heart Health for Diabetics
———————————–
New research indicates that people with diabetes can significantly lower their risk of heart-related death by concentrating their physical activity into just one or two weekend workouts, SciTech Daily reported. A large study of over 50,000 adults with diabetes, published in Annals of Internal Medicine, found that those who completed at least 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous exercise per week, even if primarily on weekends, saw a substantial reduction in cardiovascular mortality risk.

These “weekend warriors” showed a remarkable 33% lower risk of dying from heart-related causes compared to inactive individuals. Those who spread their 150+ minutes of activity throughout the week also saw benefits, with a 19% reduced risk. The study emphasizes that the total amount of weekly exercise is more crucial than how often it’s performed. This finding offers encouraging news for individuals with diabetes, highlighting that even a concentrated effort on weekends can lead to significant improvements in heart health.
