Historic Islamic Alliance Commits to Enhancing Girls’ Education

A coalition of Islamic leaders has announced a significant initiative aimed at improving access to education for girls and women through the Islamabad Declaration for Girls’ Education, Arab News reported. This declaration asserts that girls’ education is both a religious obligation and a societal necessity.

The declaration was established during a conference in Islamabad, organized by the Muslim World League. It includes representatives from various Islamic schools of thought, such as Deobandi, Hanafi, and Haqqani, alongside gender activists and political leaders.

Key aspects of the initiative include the formation of an Islamic Educational Alliance, which will leverage a network of religious leaders, scholars, and policy experts from leading Islamic universities globally. The Muslim World League plans to collaborate with international organizations, including the UN Refugee Agency and UN University for Peace, to enhance educational access for women.

The conference also outlined practical measures, including awareness campaigns led by educational centers and scholars to address barriers to girls’ education. Over 150 dignitaries from 44 countries participated in the summit, underscoring a collective commitment to overcoming challenges faced by girls in accessing education.
