Imam al-Jawad Basement at al-Abbas Holy Shrine opening soon
The Engineering Projects Department at Al-Abbas Holy Shrine has begun implementing the final touches of Imam al-Jawad Basement ahead of its opening. The new 1000-square-meter basement is located on the north side of the Holy Shrine and is dedicated to serving the female pilgrims.
“The final works of this vital and important project, which is one of the service projects within the holy shrine, included glazing the ceiling with colored and artistically-cut glass,” said the head of the aforementioned department, Engineer Dia Majeed al-Sa’egh.
Al-Sa’egh mentioned that the works also included covering the floor and walls with alabaster, as well as making marble figures, inscriptions and decorations on the walls of the basement, dedicating some of them to be places for storing the Holy Qur’an, books of supplications, Ziyarat and Turbahs.
“The walls and ceiling were covered with a Quranic inscription, written using the Thuluth font by the calligraphy teacher Ahmad Naji,” added Al-Sa’egh.
The basement was supplied with an integrated cooling system linked with the main system of Al-Abbas Holy Shrine in order to create a suitable atmosphere for pilgrims, in addition to other necessary systems (ventilation – lighting – electricity – alarm and fire – monitoring – acoustics).
“The new basement will be opened in the coming days and will contribute to reducing the crowdedness of pilgrims in the courtyard of the Holy Shrine and provide a suitable and appropriate atmosphere for women to perform their Ziyarat rituals and acts of worship,” Al-Sa’egh concluded.
