A number of foreign journalists have visited the holy land of Karbala to document closely the largest annual human gathering in the human history during the Pilgrimage of Arbaeen.
In his report to Lemonade Des Religions, Sylvain Mercadier, an independent journalist, wrote about the different aspects of the pilgrimage of Arbaeen including the outstanding hospitality of the servants of Ahlulbait, peace be upon them, where he wrote “the pilgrimage is difficult in many respects, much is done to make the trip of the zouwars as pleasant as possible. The legendary hospitality of the inhabitants of the region is literally institutionalized here.”
“There are people of all ages doing Arba’een. On a purely physical level, it is a pretty phenomenal achievement for this many people to make a journey like this.” Wrote Leon Mccarron, an independent journalist, describing the roads to Karbala. He also wrote “Arba’een can be viewed through many lenses, but one that I like is that it is 20 million people all simultaneously looking after one another so that no money changes hands for the duration of the pilgrimage.”
It is worth mentioning that the journalists mentioned and many more from European countries had had not any security detail since the pilgrimage is heavily protected by Iraqi security forces and Popular Mobilization Units.
