Millions of pilgrims from across the world are in Iraq’s holy city of Karbala to celebrate the birth anniversary of the twelfth Imam, Imam al-Mahdi, may Allah hasten his reappearance.

 

Millions of pilgrims from across the world are in Iraq’s holy city of Karbala to celebrate the birth anniversary of the twelfth Imam, Imam al-Mahdi, may Allah hasten his reappearance.

Large groups the lovers of Ahlulbait, peace be upon them, many of whom have reached Karbala after trekking at least 76 kilometres from Najaf, are observing the night of Mid-Shabaan, known as the largest annual religious celebration in Karbala.

Mid-Sha’ban is a holiday observed by various Muslim communities on the night between 14 and 15 Sha’ban, especially in Karbala, where millions of pilgrims are celebrating the nights with religious rituals and prayers near the holy shrines of Imam Hussein and his brother al-Abbas, peace be upon them.

Iraq has tightened security in and around Karbala, which is home to Imam Hussein’s holy shrine, stationing tens of thousands of security personnel near the perimeters of the sanctuary as well as on all roads leading to the city.

It is worth mentioning that 650 service units participated in the provision of services during Mid-Shabaan.
