The General Secretariat of the Al-Kadhimiya Holy Shrine has announced the completion of preparations for Muharram commemorations in cooperation with the Baghdad Municipality and relevant service authorities.
The shrine confirmed that nearly 300 Husseini and service mawkibs have been registered to help provide services to pilgrims and mourners arriving in the holy city of Kadhimiya.
Ihab Naji Abbas, a member of the shrine’s board of directors, said coordination and organizational procedures for the Husseini mawkibs had been completed. He said around 300 mawkibs from inside Kadhimiya and various areas of Baghdad will take part in serving visitors and reviving Husseini rituals during Muharram.
He added that the joint service plan includes providing thousands of meals daily to pilgrims and mourners. The first phase will include the distribution of around 3,000 meals per day, with the possibility of increasing the number depending on crowd levels and the flow of visitors during the mourning period.
Ali Abdul Hussein Ali, director general of the Kadhimiya Municipality, said the municipality has prepared an integrated service plan in coordination with the relevant authorities. The plan includes deploying staff and service vehicles along the main routes expected to witness heavy movement of visitors.
He said the plan focuses on key areas around the Al-Kadhimiya Holy Shrine, including Al-Dabbash Bridge, Al-Abra area and Al-A’imma Bridge, in addition to cleaning operations, waste removal and maintenance of walkways used by large numbers of visitors.
Municipal teams will work around the clock through three continuous shifts, with additional night-time cleaning campaigns to maintain public cleanliness and provide a suitable environment for pilgrims.
Organizers called on Husseini mawkib owners and citizens to cooperate with service teams and follow official instructions, in order to help ensure the success of Muharram commemorations and provide the best possible services to mourners and visitors heading to the holy city of Kadhimiya.
