Millions of Devotees Commemorate Martyrdom of Imam Muhammad al‑Jawad (peace be upon him) Across Iraq

Millions of pilgrims gathered in Al-Kadhimiya, Karbala, Najaf, and Basra to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Muhammad al‑Jawad (peace be upon him), the ninth Imam of the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them).

The solemn events, held with deep reverence, reaffirmed the spiritual and cultural bonds of the Shia community and honored the sacrifices of the Imam and other revered religious figures.

In Al-Kadhimiya, crowds from across Iraq and abroad participated in a symbolic funeral procession for a replica of the Imam’s bier, chanting hymns of loyalty and lamentations that echoed the tragedy of his martyrdom at young age. Pilgrims recalled the injustice he suffered, including the poisoning that ended his life and the neglect of his sacred body for three days—a stark reminder of the suffering endured by the Imams of Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them).

Simultaneously, mourning ceremonies were held in Karbala and Najaf, with participants renewing their allegiance to the teachings of the Imams and honoring their moral and spiritual legacy. Devotees highlighted the importance of preserving these commemorations as a living expression of faith and adherence to the principles of the Imamate.

In Basra, the office of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al‑Husseini al‑Shirazi organized a religious council, where scholars recounted the Imam’s life, scientific contributions, and steadfastness in the face of adversity. The gathering emphasized religious education, spiritual reflection, and the promotion of ethical values.

The Supreme Marja’, Grand Ayatollah al‑Shirazi, called on followers worldwide to strengthen observances during the ten blessed days of the Jawadiyyah, to reflect on the Imam’s sacrifices, and to propagate the Imam’s teachings of piety, justice, and devotion.
