Global Commemorations Mark Birth Anniversary of Imam al-Mahdi Across Madagascar and Sweden

Devotees worldwide have celebrated the birth anniversary of the Awaited Savior, Imam al-Mahdi (peace be upon him), with specialized ceremonies hosted by centers affiliated with Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husayni al-Shirazi. These events, marking the 15th of Sha’ban, spanned from the Indian Ocean coastline to Scandinavia.

In Mahajanga, Madagascar, the Supreme Marja’s office organized a traditional pre-dawn “Renewal of Allegiance” ceremony. Following a long-standing custom, followers gathered at the seaside before sunrise to cast letters addressed to the Imam into the water. Sheikh Mohammed Radhi Wesram, director of the local office, addressed the assembly on the rewards of “waiting” and the spiritual responsibilities of believers during the Occultation. The program included the recitation of Dua Nudba, Dua al-Ahd, and various celebratory activities.

Simultaneously, in Sweden, the Shia community held significant festivities in centers linked to His Eminence. In Stockholm, the Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba Husseiniya hosted a spiritual evening featuring religious lectures, poetry recitations, and praises dedicated to the Imam of the Age (peace be upon him). A similarly large-scale celebration took place at the Husseiniya of the Devotees of Fatima al-Zahra and Khadija al-Kubra (peace be upon them both). Both Swedish centers welcomed a wide range of followers who participated in religious and ritualistic programs to mark the auspicious birth.
