The holy city of Karbala witnessed widespread scenes of joy and spiritual celebration on the night of Mid-Sha‘ban, marking the anniversary of the birth of Imam al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance), who is the fulfiller of the hopes of the prophets and the bearer of Divine justice.
Festive and devotional activities were particularly visible in the areas surrounding the Shrines of Imam Hussein and his brother Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon them), as millions of pilgrims gathered to commemorate the occasion. Over recent days, Karbala has received visitors from across Iraq, as well as pilgrims from Arab and foreign countries, arriving via organized transport routes and on foot in walking convoys from southern regions of the country.
Pilgrims expressed their joy at the arrival of the birth anniversary of the Awaited Imam, describing Mid-Sha‘ban as one of the most significant and sacred nights in the Islamic calendar. In remarks to correspondents of Shia Waves Agency, visitors highlighted the spiritual importance of the occasion, noting that it commemorates the birth of epitome of justice and Divine guidance.
Pilgrims stated that the night was observed through acts of worship, visitation of the two holy shrines, religious celebrations, and symbolic practices such as lighting candles. Many also emphasized their belief that humanity, amid ongoing conflicts and suffering, looks toward the anticipated appearance of Imam al-Mahdi as a source of hope for justice, peace, and the restoration of moral order across the world.
