Blood donation campaigns were launched in Iraq’s southern cities of Basra and Karbala to coincide with the birth anniversary of Imam Husayn (peace be upon him) in the month of Sha‘ban, highlighting humanitarian initiatives linked to religious occasions.

In Basra, the Al-Sadiqiyah Foundation organized the “Imam of Life” blood donation campaign under the supervision of the office of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husayni al-Shirazi. The initiative attracted dozens of volunteers from different age groups and professions. Organizers said the campaign aims to support patients in Basra’s hospitals and to strengthen blood bank reserves amid rising medical demand. The foundation stated that the event reflects religious guidance encouraging the transformation of religious commemorations into acts of public service and charity.

Meanwhile, in Karbala, a group of young volunteers, in coordination with the Karbala Health Directorate, prepared to launch the annual blood donation drive titled “Drops, But Life.” The campaign is being held in the area between the two holy shrines during the third and fourth days of Sha‘ban. Organizers said the initiative focuses on supplying blood to hospitals, with particular attention to cancer patients and critical cases.

According to organizers, all donated blood units will be delivered to accredited blood banks and medical centers in line with health regulations. Previous editions of the Karbala campaign saw strong participation, helping hospitals maintain adequate blood supplies.

Both initiatives emphasized that blood donation campaigns during religious occasions serve as practical expressions of social solidarity, volunteerism, and humanitarian responsibility inspired by the legacy of Imam Husayn (peace be upon him).
