Shia Communities Commemorate Martyrdom Anniversary of Sayyida Umm al-Banin (peace be upon her)
———————————–
Shia communities in several countries held mourning ceremonies to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Lady Umm al-Banin (peace be upon her), the revered wife of Imam Ali (peace be upon him). The events reflected widespread devotion to her legacy of loyalty, sacrifice, and service to the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
In Sydney, Australia, the Ale Yasin Mosque and Hussainiya—affiliated with Grand Ayatollah Shirazi—launched a five-night program beginning on Sunday, 9 Jumada al-Thani 1447 AH. The gatherings included Qur’an recitation, congregational prayers, the recitation of the Ziyarat of Lady Umm al-Banin (peace be upon her), and religious lectures delivered in both English and Arabic, followed by mourning rituals.
In the holy city of Qom, a special mourning assembly was held on Thursday, 12 Jumada al-Thani 1447 AH, at the residence of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Husayni Shirazi. Scholars, clerics, and devotees attended the commemoration. Hujjat al-Islam Najjarzadeh delivered eulogies recalling the virtues of Lady Umm al-Banin and the sacrifices of her son, Abbas ibn Ali (peace be upon him). The ceremony concluded with prayers for the reappearance of Imam al-Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance) and for relief for Shia communities worldwide.
Meanwhile, in Iraq, the sacred shrine of al-Kazimayn and Askariyyayn (peace be upon them all) was draped in black to mark the occasion. According to Shia Waves Agency, the atmosphere of the shrine was filled with elegies, mourning processions, and devotional recitations. Pilgrims and shrine caretakers honored Lady Umm al-Banin’s memory through prayers and lamentations, expressing deep reverence for her role in the history of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
