103-Year-Old Iranian Embarks on Holy Arbaeen Pilgrimage

A 103-year-old Iranian is set to be the oldest pilgrim participating in the 2025 Arbaeen procession in Iraq, Iqna.ir reported.

As of July 28, 2025, over one million Iranians have registered for the Arbaeen pilgrimage through the Samah system, with 59% men and 41% women. Registration surged in recent days, with approximately 350,000 new applicants in the last 48 hours. The youngest registered pilgrim is just 12 days old, while the average age of participants is 39 years.

Arbaeen, observed on the 40th day after Ashura, commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), the grandson of Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his pure family). It is the world’s largest annual pilgrimages, drawing millions from Iraq, neighboring countries, and beyond. This year, over 4 million Iranian pilgrims are expected to participate.
