The Al-Abbas Holy Shrine (peace be upon him) has announced the details of a new project involving the courtyard and basement of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him), covering an area of 30,000 square meters, Alkafeel Global Network reported.
Engineer Diaa Al-Sa’egh, head of the engineering projects department at the shrine, explained that the project extends from the entrance of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas’s (peace be upon him) shrine to Jomhuree Street, encompassing a total area of 30,000 square meters. It features an underground basement and an above-ground courtyard that connects with the courtyard of Umm al-Baneen (peace be upon her) as well as the space between the two holy shrines.
He further noted that the courtyard will include arcades on both the right and left sides, with commercial shops located behind these arcades that link to the old markets. The external designs of these shops will reflect the heritage of traditional markets such as Saffarin Market, Bab al-Khan, Al-Alawi, and others.
The project will be fully air-conditioned and designed as a comprehensive complex, offering numerous services to both visitors and residents of the holy city.
Al-Sa’egh also highlighted that the architectural style will closely resemble that of Holy Al-Abbas Shrine (peace be upon him), with slight adjustments in dimensions to ensure proper ventilation for the basement.
This project is one of the most significant expansions for the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine (peace be upon him). Upon completion, it will mark a major advancement in accommodating the growing number of visitors and enhancing the services available during the massive pilgrimages that the holy city of Karbala experiences.
