Lucknow Bioscope Unveils ‘Hunar-e-Aza’ Exhibition Showcasing Traditional Muharram Crafts

Lucknow Bioscope opened its fourth exhibition, ‘Hunar-e-Aza – The Handmade Language of Grief,’ on Saturday, featuring the intricate craftsmanship behind Muharram artifacts such as tazias, alams, and jhoolas, The Times of India reported. The exhibit displays craft materials, tools, photographs, and videos that tell the stories of local artisans.
The launch included a talk by scholar Prof. Nadeem Hasnain titled ‘Muharram of Awadh – Observations Over the Last 50 Years,’ where he explained key terms like Muharram, Azadaari, Karbala, and Ashura, providing historical context on the tragedy of Karbala. He also compared mourning traditions in Lucknow and Hyderabad.
