Residents of Holy Karbala hold symbolic funeral to commemorate Imam al-Baqir’s martyrdom anniversary

The residents of Holy Karbala commemorated the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (peace be upon him) by holding a symbolic funeral procession for his pure coffin. The ceremony took place around the holy shrines of Imam Hussein and al-Abbas (peace be upon them), under the supervision of the Department of Rituals and Husseini Processions in Iraq and the Islamic world.

The funeral procession began at the Bab Baghdad area, moved toward the courtyard of al-Abbas (peace be upon him), and concluded at the courtyard of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him). It took place in an atmosphere of sorrow and devotion, as participants expressed their condolences and remembered the injustice faced by Imam al-Baqir (peace be upon him).

The Department of Rituals and Processions explained that a pre-planned organizational strategy was put in place to ensure the smooth movement of participating processions and to avoid any conflict with the paths of other visitors, thus maintaining order and ease throughout the mourning ceremonies.

This symbolic funeral has become an annual tradition maintained by the people of Holy Karbala, reflecting their deep spiritual connection with the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and renewing their commitment to commemorating their occasions and remembering their tragedies.
