Holy Najaf adorns old city ahead of 14th International Ghadir Week
Preparations are underway in the holy city of Najaf as it begins decorating its historic quarters for the 14th International Ghadir Week, set to take place in 1446 AH (2025). The event celebrates Eid al-Ghadir, a significant occasion in the Islamic calendar, and brings a vibrant spiritual and festive atmosphere to the city.
Amir Abbadi, head of the Events Division at the Nazm Planning and Development Center, said decoration efforts have begun on a wide scale and are progressing in an organized manner. The work includes hanging fabric ornaments and raising banners throughout the streets, markets, and alleyways leading to the revered Imam Ali Shrine.
Over 3,000 banners have already been distributed across the old city’s neighborhoods and marketplaces. An additional 1,000 pieces of premium cloth decorations—adorned with prophetic quotes honoring Imam Ali (peace be upon him)—are being prepared and installed in various locations.
These efforts are part of a broader campaign to enhance the city’s religious and cultural identity in preparation for the upcoming Ghadir Week, which will feature a range of spiritual and cultural activities open to the wider community.
