First halal-compliant restaurant to obtain quality certificate opens in Russia

The first restaurant in Russia to obtain a certificate of compliance with Islamic Sharia standards has opened in Ufa, the capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

The restaurant has become the first to officially register its halal product label.

The restaurant’s receipt of a halal certificate does not mean that it is the only restaurant in Russia that serves halal food. Russia is home to millions of Muslims, and many factories produce halal food of all kinds throughout the country.

The Russian Federal Service for Consumer Protection, Roskachestvo, noted that granting halal certificates to restaurants or cafes does not only involve inspecting meals and ensuring their compliance with Islamic standards, but also ensuring the concept and character of the establishment.

One of the basic conditions for obtaining a halal certificate is the presence of a prayer room for visitors and employees of the restaurant.

In October of last year, the largest confectionery company in Russia, Obidiniennye Konditer, obtained a halal certificate. The company produces the famous Russian chocolate “Alyonka”. The certificate applies to products manufactured at the company’s facilities at the Krasny Oktyabr confectionery factory.
