US: Texas hosts largest Shia cultural gathering with over 10,000 attendees

The Grand Exposition Hall in San Antonio, Texas, USA, hosted a cultural gathering that aims to raise awareness about the Twelver Shia Islamic doctrine in a region where Islamic representation is not sufficiently present.

According to Shia Waves Agency, the Shia cultural gathering saw the participation of a large number of professors, students, authors, publishers, religious leaders, and those interested in Shia Islamic heritage and thought.

The agency added that the event was hosted by the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL) and the American Academy of Religion (AAR), and attracted more than 10,000 participants who took part in over 1,200 academic sessions and workshops.

The agency further added that the gathering featured a book fair and digital resources specialized in academic religious studies, in addition to a lively networking space where attendees could present ideas to publishers and browse the latest Shia publications.

It noted that the books on display covered important topics, including the stories of the prophets, introductory books about Shia Islam, Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and his reformist movement, in addition to a series of Islamic law booklets on practical issues.
