UN official says more children killed in Gaza than total count in 22 countries since 2020

Rula Dashti, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), has revealed that the cumulative number of children killed in Gaza over the course of a month now surpasses the total count of children killed in armed conflicts across 22 countries since 2020.

The UN Secretary-General said that the estimated figure of children killed in Gaza stands at 4,300, surpassing the collective toll in 22 countries for any given year since 2020.

The study titled “The Gaza War: Expected Social and Economic Impacts on the State of Palestine” underscores the urgent need for a ceasefire and the importance of ensuring a continuous and sustainable flow of humanitarian aid to promptly alleviate the suffering of the victims.

The United Nations has projected that 35,000 housing units have been completely destroyed, with an additional 220,000 units suffering partial damage.
