UN chief ‘horrified’ by Israeli strike on Gaza ambulance convoy

The head of the United Nations was “horrified” by a strike by Israeli forces on a convoy of ambulances in Gaza on Friday, he said in a statement, adding that the conflict “must stop.”

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society has confirmed the strike took place just feet from the entrance to the hospital in Gaza City, killing 15 people and wounding more than 60 others.

Israel’s army had previously said that it had attacked an ambulance, claiming it was being used by Hamas militants, but the Gaza Health Ministry insists that the ambulances were evacuating wounded people to Egypt.

The UN secretary-general describing the humanitarian situation in Gaza as “horrific”, and once again called for a humanitarian ceasefire, emphasizing that international humanitarian law must be respected.
