UN resolution urging immediate Gaza ceasefire passes with overwhelming majority

The United Nations General Assembly has voted overwhelmingly in favour of a resolution calling for an immediate and sustained humanitarian truce between Israel and the Palestinian armed group Hamas.

The non-binding resolution, received 120 votes in favor, 14 against and 45 abstentions from UN members.

It called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all civilians, the protection of civilians and international institutions, and ensuring the safe passage of humanitarian aid into the Strip.
