Increased FBI surveillance on mosques, Muslims in wake of conflict in Middle East

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) says it has received numerous reports of the FBI spying on individuals and mosques, as well as intimidating Muslims since the outbreak of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Civil rights advocates have raised concerns about reported visits to mosques and arrests of Muslim citizens by federal agents, repeating the post-9/11 targeting of Muslim and Arab communities.

The interactions are reminiscent of surveillance and targeting of Muslim and Arab communities in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, contributing to a resurgence of fear among Muslim communities, said Abed Ayoub, executive director of the ADC.
