Grand Ayatollah Shirazi gives ruling on practicing religion without following Marja
The daily scholarly meeting of Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Sadegh Hosseini Shirazi was held on Saturday 9th of Safar. In this session, like the previous meetings, the Supreme Religious Authority answered the questions of those present in the meeting about various jurisprudential issues.
In this meeting, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi answered a question about fulfillment of Shariah duties by the accountable person (Mukallaf) without following the qualified faqih, and said: “If the accountable person prays or fasts or performs Hajj, or fulfills Sharia duties without following a Marja, his actions are not invalid as long as it is later verified that he has correctly fulfilled his Sharia duties and they were done in accordance with the correct ways prescribed by religious authorities.”
His Eminence went on to say that in such a condition, knowledge of “the reality of Sharia” is not a determining condition, and if it turns out that his actions was in accordance with the truth, then they are correct, that is, he will not be asked on the Day of Judgment why he did not follow a religious authority in his practice? Therefore, as long as it is verified that his action was in accordance with the fatwa of the qualified faqih, it will be sufficient.”
