30 UN employees killed in Afghanistan in last two years
The United Nations confirms that at least 30 humanitarian agents of this organization were killed in Afghanistan in the last two years.
The UN humanitarian affairs coordinator in Afghanistan described the circumstances and working environment of Afghanistan as challenging for the employees of this organization, adding that the risks posed to UN staff is unacceptable.
“Without humanitarian workers, millions of people would not have access to the basic needs required to survive,” he said on Saturday, August 19, on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day.
Reporters say that most of the employees who were killed in the last two years were polio vaccinators and mine neutralizers.
